EOTD- Using the Star Treatment Palette

I've been wanting to get my hands on Bare Minerals Star Treatment Palette for some time. What really caught my eye was the second shade Connoisseur. A gorgeous bronzey tan colour, which I had nothing like in my make up collection.

It comes in this sleek silver packaging, simple, yet classy. I do like the look, but keeping it smudge free is near impossible, because I can't keep my grubby little hands off of it, lol. To be honest, it is a lot smaller than I imagined, but on the other hand, it is compact enough to travel with.

Don't let this pic deceive you, they are not ordinary neutrals.

I just love how rich the pigment is. The black is not at all chalky and does not lack pigment, as is common with a lot of black shadows. They are soft and creamy, yet product is transferred well without crumbling or fall out.

I just had to get the eye shadow Connoisseur onto my lids..and WOW it did not disappoint! I put the fourth shade Ritzy in my crease and then to darken the crease, I used the black shade, VIP. These eye shadows offer blend-ability as well as build-ability. The colour remained as vibrant for at least 12 hours, there was no creasing and no fading. I applied the lid colour over Silk Natural primer.

I can see this palette getting a lot of love!! :)

NOTD- Wet Paint

I bought some nail art polishes from Ebay such a long time ago, and hardly ever use them. They were just some cheapies, but I thought they'd be fun, and great for practising. I had already decided I was going to use a purple base colour and just wanted to add a splash of colour. I opened my top nail polish drawer that contain the nail art polishes. After some deliberation, I just couldn't go past the red, definitely a splash of colour..a very noticeable splash of colour, lol.

After applying Orly Bonder base coat, I went ahead and applied Borghese Rapido nail polish. It is only labelled as a numbered shade. I'd never heard of this brand of nail polish before, but I came across it in one of my favourite ways of a bargain bin :) The colour just stood out, and I had to have it. My nails required 3 coats to get a nice opaque colour that wasn't streaky. It is quite a thin formula, but it does dry quickly, so applying 3 coats isn't that much of a drama.
My next step was applying the red nail polish. I did this by using small strokes going down the tips of my nails. The polishes have quite a thin brush, and I liked the effect it gave..UNTIL all the bristles fell out midway through application!! I wasn't impressed, but didn't want to start again, so I used the end of the plastic wand, looked ok, but not exactly what I was after, lol.
For some time, I've felt the need to give my nails a sparkle hit, so next came a coat of Satin glitter, only over the purple polish. I like the different sized glitter that this nail polish offers.
A coat of Seche Vite Top Coat and I was done! :)

Wednesday, 20 February 2013

Any reason is a good reason for make up, a shopping trip was enough for me! Though, to be completely honest, I often apply make up even when I am not going any where. I find it relaxing, and just love the art of applying, and if all goes well, I feel good afterwards :)

These are the products that I used for this look

In attempt not to bore you, anything I have covered in other blog posts, I won't go into detail.

Foundation is my custom EveryDay Minerals mix..yes, I'm still trying to use it up.
Performance Colours concealer sample in Light/Medium. It's like the never ending sample pot, I've gotten so many applications, which is a good thing, because I love this concealer!

I used the Nude By Nature brown eye pencil on my brows. I find that it tugs a little when applying to my lashline, but while this is not an ideal quality for my lids, I find it great for applying to my brows. Using a liner that is not too soft makes it easier to "feather" on my brows. I found that once applied, I could smudge it lightly with my finger to blend in, giving me a natural, yet finished look.

I lined my upper lashline with Smashbox Cream Eye Liner Trio in Blockbuster. The cream liner does the job, but I'd only use it during the day, as I find it can slide a little during wear. It is easy to work with, though it's not smudgeproof, which I'd much prefer, and I'm only really using it in an attempt to finish it. I'm normally a black eyeliner girl, but actually don't mind the brown colour for day wear.

I used the blue shadow on my lids. This colour is courtesy of the lovely Michelle from RitualEyes. A gorgeous, easy to work with shadow. The other shadow is from Fyrinnae. I love this company for their gorgeous vibrant shimmery colours. I used this deep purple in my crease and along my lower lashline. Sorry I can't tell you their names, as I depotted these colours, and forgot to label them!! Oops
I used the neutral coloured shadow from the MAC palette on my brow bone, I often use this colour on this part of my eye area.
Of course I used my trusty Mirenesse Mascara. Although, not for much longer, I barely got enough product for my lashes!

On my cheeks, I applied EveryDay Minerals blush in Walkee Talkee. As you can see, it is a loose powder. It comes in quite a large jar, with a sifter for a less messier application. I have a few blushes from EveryDay Minerals. I've been trying to get through this one for some time, and the jar still appears full! In saying that, this is a lovely colour. It gives me a lovely flush of pink. It does have shimmer, however, it's not over-the-top disco ball shimmer.

I wore CoverGirl Triple lipstick in Beach Plum. Goodness knows where I bought this from, especially since I don't normally buy CG products, well, apart from their LashBlast mascara. Anyways, it's a lovely mauve colour that is so creamy on the lips.

I rarely wear a lipstick without gloss. My favourite at the moment is Bourjois Effet 3D lip gloss in 73. It was lovely and clear, but I've managed to make it look grubby, applying over various shades of lipstick has discoloured the look, but thankfully, it still applies clear. I just love Bourjois lip glosses. They give you gorgeous glossy lips, without being too tacky. The only thing I don't like is the brush. As you can see, the bristles are all over the place, it doesn't affect application, I just don't like the look, lol.

NOTD- A Touch of Class, A Touch of Glitter

In the hope of creating a new look for my nails, I reached for my nifty little nail stickers. I bought a bunch from ebay, so had a nice selection to choose from. I really wanted to use a silver nail polish for my base colour, so decided that black stickers would contrast nicely.

Of course, Orly Bonder was applied first, as this base coat is FABULOUS :)
I then applied 2 coats of Naturistics nail polish in Chrome Crazy. I had not only never used this brand of nail polish before, but had not even heard of it. I just happened to come across it, thanks to an ebay store selling cheap nail polish. This is such a striking silver colour, that gave me perfect coverage after 2 applications. Next were the stickers. I began with the graduating flower stickers. I went ahead with a feature nail, and applied the extra flower sticker to my ring fingers. Although, the cute black designs on a silver backdrop looked fine, I felt that I needed a touch of colour. This is where I reached for Satin nail polish that is purple glitter in clear polish. I have only used Satin glitters. They're cheapies, but do the job. I'm not sure what the quality of their coloured nail polish is like.
As you can see in the pics, I only applied the glitter polish to the tips of my nails, but I thought it really gave this look the extra little "something" that it needed.
Lastly, I applied Seche Vite, my current number one top coat.

I was content with the result. What do you think? :)

Mission Accomplished- Majolica Majorca Eye Liner

Majolica Majorca Perfect Automatic Liner:

I love all make up, but if there's two products that I can't live without, it is mascara and eye liner. For many years, I never felt comfortable using anything but eye liner pencils. There was no way that I wanted to try a product that required a brush, and liquid liner was definitely out, lol. Well, that's until I began experimenting more and felt the need to expand my collection, adding new products. Thanks to ebay, I was able to get my hands on two Majolica Majorca Perfect Automatic Liners (a recommendation from a friend, that thankfully I followed, not that it takes much to convince me to buy make up, lol) Majolica Majorca is a division of Shiseido, same quality, yet cheaper, gotta love that! :)
The liners come in 7 different blackened shades

With much deliberation, I chose the shades green and gold, but to be honest, they both looked black to me,
Releasing product is simple, it is achieved by twisting the bottom, by doing this, you'll hear clicking sounds. The brush head will hold the liquid liner, you don't want too much.
I found the brush to be perfect, not too stiff, yet not too soft. For me, lining my eyes with this eye liner was a dream. With practice, my technique got better over a short amount of time.
I was so disappointed when with each "click" revealed less and less product, until there was none left! Mind you, it took months and months of every day use.
I loved how the waterproof formula did not budge after application, giving a glossy black look that lasted throughout wear. My favourite lining technique is to begin fine, then at about 3/4 of the way down the upper lashline, make the line thicker and bolder. I found it so easy to achieve my desired look!
It has been hard to resist replacing the Majolica Mojorca liner, but I am attempting to stick to my "using  more of my liners before buying any more" rule..I'm not very good at following my own makeup "rules", but I will try! But, rest assured, these will be back in my collection again. So far, they are my HG liquid eye liners!

A Spotlight on J'Adore Les Levres Liquid Lipsticks

I can't resist a good sale, and when Sweet Pea & Faye announced their sale, it was the perfect opportunity to try the lip products that I had wanted to get my hands on for some time. A just had to grab some more eye shadows also!

RIF RAF: Purple hued cocoa brown.

COPPER BIRD: Metallic copper shimmer.

LICKITY SPLIT: Golden olive shimmer.

In my attempt to cut down on eye shadow spendings, I only chose 3 eye shadows. These are gorgeous to use. Easy to blend, great pigment and adhere well.

J'Adore Les Levres liquid lipsticks...

PAPER CUT:  Mauve pink.

I thought that these liquid lipsticks were dupes of OCC lip tars, not so. Lip Tars are not as thick and seem to have more of a glossy sheen.

The top pic is OCC Lip Tar.

Having a lighter consistency may seem like a positive, but I find that Lip Tars can be difficult to work with. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the J'Adore Les Levres. They are an opaque,  thick creme formula that are a dream to work with.

On my lid I applied the gorgeous Lickity Split. Copper Bird is on my browbone, with Rif Raf in the crease and on lower lashline. My lips have a combination of both lip colours.

I had a lot of fun with this look. I rarely put bright colours on my lips, I actually really like how well the colours mixed, worked.
Needless to say, I need more of these liquid lipsticks! :)

Flaming Orange Nails

On my nails, I wanted sparkles, and I wanted colour. Well, I certainly got both with this nail look :)

I started with a coat of Orly Bonder, my must have base coat. After having nail polish last almost chip free for almost a week, instead of a couple of days (if that!) It is totally worth including this step when applying nail polish.
For the base colour, I chose Rimmel Play Fast nail polish in Mouthy, a golden orange. It applied on the sheer side, so it took 3 coats for a coverage that I was content with.
For the sparkle element of this look, I used Femme Fatale Tricky Treat from the Halloween collection (a review of my latest Femme Fatale purchase will follow in the not-too-distant future). This polish contains orange, fuchsia and dark glitter, there are also lengths of gold. To achieve plenty of sparkle, I had to apply 4 coats. I love the finish of this polish, the only con is that some of the gold strips come away from my nail, however, gently pulling at it to remove hasn't affected the rest of my nail look.
Lastly, is my much loved Seche Vite. It seals the nail, giving it an extra glossy look, and drying quickly in the process.

My nails ended up with many coats of nail polish. However, I think the finished result was worth it. Unfortunately, the pics don't show just how sparkley my nails looked..
