Water Colour Nails

A couple of nail looks that I had never tried before was attempting a reverse stamping design and water colour nail design.
Reverse stamping is a technique where to complete, I used a ziplock bag to paint a nail sized square of clear polish. Once dry, you stamp the nail design you wish to use, then place on the nail like a decal, I placed it on a wet coat of clear top coat. Sounds easy enough, right? Yes, well as you'll be able to see, I didn't quite get the finish that I wanted.
The water colour design, however, I was content with. Once a base colour is dry, you dot on various nail colours, working quickly on one nail at a time. I used the ziplock bag again to flatten the dots of colour. Simple, and so many variations can be experimented with.

Because I wanted to use bright polishes, I used a white base, Maybelline Color Show Porcelain Party. The dots of colour  came from Models Inc Fluro Pink, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blizzard Blue and Ulta3 Mojito. For the stamping, I used the purple Bloom polish.

As you can see, especially on my little finger, the stamping design is not at all smooth. I'm wondering if maybe this happened because I used fast drying top coat. Seche Vite.  I'm wondering if using a clear polish would dry without wrinkling??? I have no idea! LOL.

Here's a couple of other variations using the same method

I used some glitter polishes over white and purple base colours.

With a black base, I used a combination of colour shifting polishes.

I'm sure you'll be seeing more of these manis in future :)

  1. Seche Vite actually shrinks as it dries, so depending on how you used it (base for the decal to be stamped on, base to hold down the decal, top coat over the decal) could effect the results. I also find it's a good idea to cap the nail when using Seche Vite to prevent pulling of the colour varnish.

I reckon you did a great job! I've been meaning to try the water colour polish effect but I'm still having trauma moments from doing my Australia Day nail art lol.

    1. Oh, thank you, Mandy! I don't generally have a lot of patience, there's many a creation that don't get photographed, lol. I find playing with my nails fun most of the time, and to get to share with others, as your lovely self is such a bonus xx
