I will often make a point of saying when a colour is season appropriate, however, I don't have a rule set in place to only wear these colours. I just choose whatever appeals to me at the time. That was the case when I applied "Turquoise Paradise". I wouldn't call it a Winter shade, but I just had to wear it.
"Turquoise Paradise" is the perfect name for this nail polish!
This beautiful blue reminds me of the waters of a tropical beach that I would love to be at right now. Bring on Spring, cold weather sucks!
I've always needed lip balm for my dry lips. Since wanting to wear lipsticks now, rather than a slick of gloss or balm, I have noticed that the condition of my lips will make or break a lovely bright lip. I've also noticed lines around my lips, which cause feathering, not a good look. Skinn by Dimitri Lip 6X Amplifying Serum is now only the second treatment targeted for my lips that I have used. Taken from the website- "Bigger, fuller, plumper, sexier lips with a firmer lip rim are now attainable faster than ever before with the Lip 6X- Lip Amplifying Serum. Powerful new vectorized peptides and collagen-injected liposomes, combined with tissue supporting chondroitin deliver rapid and unprecedented results for visibly augmented more beautiful lips."
The glass bottle contains 15 ml of product.
Easy to use pump dispenser.
A little of this thick serum goes a long way.
I use only half a pump to dispense ample product for my lips. The serum just glides around my lips. I'm not too precise with application, because it is beneficial for the skin around the lip area, also. Morning and night, this serum has become the last step in my skin care routine.
I haven't noticed a scent. The only thing I notice when using this product is a slight minty cooling sensation, no irritating sting.
I love the way it feels on my lips, I would say it feels similar to lanolips. The hydration lasts for hours. I still apply a lip balm through out the day, but no where near as much as I used to.
To be honest, my lips have not been in better condition. I haven't noticed the dreadful flaking that I'd especially get while wearing lipstick, never a good look.
I can still notice the deeper lines around my lips, but the others are reducing in depth. That being said, results are expected after a month of use, which I've only been using for half that time.
Skinn by Dimitri Lip 6X Lip Amplifying Serum is certainly worth the seconds it takes for the extra step in my skin care routine!
You've probably already heard me waffle on about Aldi's own brand Lacura. Apart from the makeup wipes, this is the first skin care product that I have reviewed. The products can be hit and miss, which I guess is common in most brands, but the small outlay is worth trying anything of interest.
The mask comes in a squeeze tube.
As expected, the tube comes with a flip top lid.
The product is a pale green of, you guessed it, clay consistency.
This clay mask has a herbal smell to it. The product is quite thick, however, I did find it smoothed across my skin fairly easily.
Recommended time to leave on is 15 minutes, generally I leave on for about 30.
It does dry on the skin and does feel tight. I usually remove when my skin starts feeling itchy. I just wash off with a warm face washer. I actually find this to be a relatively easy process, considering that it does set on the skin.
Once removed, my skin is left feeling clean, soft and smooth. My face no longer feels tight and certainly doesn't feel stripped. I do like that my skin looks less dull after use, especially during Winter when my skin no longer has that healthy sun kissed look. Do you use a clay mask? If so, what are you loving at the moment?
I love a tuberose perfume, but sometimes they can be headache inducing for me. So I was definitely open to trying "Tuberose Indiana", but beginning with a sample was a must.
Description- "...bergamot, Indian tuberose, vanilla and ambergris infusion."
When I first applied this perfume, I was greeted with a pungent, sour smell that I did not like at all. Before I had a chance to scrub the fragrance off, it began to morph into something more wearable. Sweet, creamy florals with a zesty quality. "Tuberose Indiana" is a full bloom of white flowers in a bottle. It is such a classically pretty and feminine blend. I just wish this perfume lasted longer on my skin.
I needed another eye shadow palette like I need a hole in my head, but hey, story of my life, really. I bought NYX "Sex Bomb" whilst on sale at Target, online. That red shadow was calling my name. Because red eye shadow is something I wear a lot. Oh well, it's in my hot little hands now, so it's really too late to try and justify it.
Yes, I love the packaging! :)
There's that red matte eye shadow, quite good pigmentation. Also the matte black was a surprise, great for a matte.
Well, that red did not disappoint when applied to my lid. The shimmery taupe is pretty, but not easy to work with, there was a lot of fallout.
Yep, the black applied as well with a brush as it did with my finger. Blended well, too. I don't normally do a full eye look with matte shadows, but I'm really liking this one!
I couldn't help myself, I had to dip into that red again! This time applying to my entire lid.
To give the taupe shade more oomph, I applied over the shimmery charcoal to create a smoky look.
Really a fantastic palette. The shimmery taupe is the hardest to work with, but a little extra time and it's a beautiful shade for the lid. I am especially impressed with the mattes, such wonderful pigmentation without being chalky. They just blend so well. I'm so glad that I have this little addition.
What's your preference, shimmer or matte eye shadows?
Well, with that boring post title, I am grateful that you are still reading my blog post! When it comes to nail art, sometimes I have so many ideas that it is hard for me to choose one to try, then at other times I struggle to come up with something. Of late I've experienced the latter. As I write this, I should have thought to do this earlier, but I really should be jotting my ideas down when they pop into my head. My brain only really works well when I don't need it to, lol. A little brain storming, well more than a little, I came up with an idea...
Essie nail polish (label is gone) and NYC "Lolly Pop", plus my handy dotting tool and a little striping tape.
Using nail striping tape as a guide, I used both shades on my nails, the shades separated by a diagonal line. Then using one colour at a time, I placed dots of each nail polish, making sure that the dots over lapped the other colour block side. How about I just show you the result.
I was happy that quite a simple method produced such a fun pattern, very effective, I think.
RawSkinCeuticals is an online indie company based in the US that is a 100% raw vegan line. To preserve the nutritional properties of the formulas, oils, herbs and butters that are used never exceed 60 degrees Celsius. Owner Sarah is such a beautiful person, who just wants to share her knowledge of skincare to others, through her products. Description taken from the website "No nano particles- micron sized titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection that is non-whitening, non-greasy and spreads easily. Gentle chemical free hydrating formula, safe for even the most sensitive skin... Green tea and shea combine in this aloe based SPF lotion base to add hydration and protect against bacteria and toxins."
The lotion is packaged in a 120 ml bottle. It is also available in a larger 240 ml size.
I love that the bottle has a convenient pump dispenser.
Definitely a lotion, not a thick cream.
This is the first natural sunscreen I have used, so I wasn't really sure what to expect from this lotion.
The smell is hard describe. I guess I would call it earthy, thanks to it being a natural product. I much prefer it to a synthetic fragranced product. It is noticeable upon application, but disappears once absorbed into the skin. Which brings me to my next point.
The lotion is easy to apply. One pump delivers enough product for my face and neck. It is not greasy, as in really not greasy, not store bought interpretations of zinc based non-greasy. Not only that, (I know, there's more!) my skin is totally touch dry in no time, so there's no tacky residue. It also doesn't react with any moisturiser I have applied underneath, no balling up or separating.
Since using for some time, I have not experienced any adverse reactions. No clogging or breakouts caused as a result of using the lotion. Oh, and no sunburn, either! :)
Seriously, at least check out the website. If you have any questions about the product, contact Sarah, she is only too happy to help. Actually I might meet you there, because I am in need of the bigger size!
I have found my holy grail sunscreen, yes you read correctly, HOLY GRAIL. As long as this SPF lotion is available, I am going to continue to buy it!
I've linked my post over at Fabulous and Fun Life, Ingrid holds a weekly link-up which is a great way to interact and find new blogs. You can join in here.
I'm so glad that there's more awareness about the benefits of using facial oils. Having combination skin, I was once cautious about using an oil. Who would have thought that many natural oils would be good for any skin type. I was gifted Thursday Plantation Macadamia Oil thanks to Beauty Heaven. In the past, I had tried the tea tree oil, but had not used a macadamia oil in skincare before, so I was interested in trying to see how my skin would go. Taken from Thursday Plantation website- "Macadamia Oil is rich in palmitoleic acid (Omega 7), an essential fatty acid that is found in the human skin's sebum, but diminishes with ageing. The Omega 7 found in Thursday Plantation Macadamia Oil works in harmony with natural skin lipids to replenish the skin's protective barrier against moisture loss, leaving the skin deeply hydrated, rejuvenated and plumped. Used as face and body serum, it helps to: Smooth fine lines, rehydrate dry or sun-damaged skin. rejuvenate tired skin that has been exposed to extreme conditions such as harsh sun, hot wonds and dry environment, restore and maintain a youthful appearance to dry and maturing skin."
Packaged in a decent sized 125 ml bottle.
Handy pump dispenser.
Thick oil consistency.
Initially, I was just going to use this oil on my hair, macadamia oil for the hair I had heard of! A quick search on my friend Google, I soon discovered that this nut oil had may benefits for the face. The facial oil also contains lavender oil, which I figured would be good for any pesky pimples, because of its anti-inflammatory, calming properties.
As soon as I pumped some product into my hand, I could smell that lavender smell. Normally I'm not a fan, but this blend is quite pleasant and very calming. Perfect for night time use, which is when I like to use a facial oil.
I had to learn to be very light handed with this product. A little really goes a long way.
The oil is so moisturizing that I don't bother following with any serums, or night cream.
Using a small amount ensures that the oil is absorbed into the skin without making it feel too oily. I just love the smooth, soft, plump feeling of my face. I often find myself touching my skin!
I was fortunate enough to be sent L'Oreal Revitalift Laser x 3 Day Cream to trial for beauty website Beauty Heaven. Taken from the L'Oreal Paris website- "The soft ultra-velevety texture provides in-depth anti ageing by correcting wrinkles, redensifying the skin and re-supporting contours."
The squared off packaging looks rather classy. I really like the look of the deep red glass jar with chrome lid. It contains 50 ml of product.
The consistency is rich, yet not too thick.
Although a jar is an easy way to access product, with all the exposure to the air, I wonder just how long the moisturiser stays stable. It has an impressive ingredient list, but that's not much good if the efficacy of the product does not stay in tact.
That out of the way, I'll mention another thing that I'm not overly keen on, and that is the strong fragrance. It's not terrible, but it's a synthetic floral scent. Maybe I'm just used to the natural products that I've been using for some time. In saying that, it doesn't last for long, it disappears as it is absorbed by the skin.
The product itself feels so luxe as I apply it to my skin. It just glides smoothly. As instructed, I apply the required amount to the top of my hand, then use my fingers to dab product to my face, then massage. Apparently, rubbing between the palms effects the product negatively (yet its packaged in a jar?)
Even though the moisturiser is quite rich, it absorbs into my combination skin so quickly. After application I can't help but touch the smooth, velvety feel of my face. It is so hydrating, but there is no sticky residue.
No need to wait before I apply my sunscreen, which is a necessary step in my skincare routine, because this day cream does not contain any SPF. I much prefer that, as I have now switched to using a physical sunscreen, rather than the more common chemical sunscreens.
The drier parts of my face have not been feeling so tight by the end of the day after using this cream. I have not experienced any breakouts, either. I don't have a lot of wrinkles, but my forehead appears less dehydrated and the onset of crepiness seems to have diminished.
Laser in a bottle? I'm not so sure, but a decent moisturiser I can attest to.
I've actually had this Essence nail polish for some time. I bought it during my obsession with textured and glitter polishes. The Sugar range had me intrigued and I went with "Blue Jeaned", yep I stopped at one, yay me!
Navy blue with a cool stone washed effect with the silver shimmer.
I was surprised that this wasn't a textured nail polish. It's not to say that I don't like it, but was expecting a different finish with the "Sugar" label. Mind you, I think it's still a nice shade, and with the combination of silver shimmer throughout, it is different to any other nail polish that I own.
I started my "Palette Appreciation" series so that I could begin using more of my eye shadow palettes. So, in an attempt to do the same with my lipsticks, I've decided to just select random lipsticks to showcase.
My first post in this series is all about Rimmel Apocalips in "Celestial". The Apocalip range had been on my radar ever since their release. Oh, the temptation every time I saw a glowing review and swatches of these lip products. My determination not to purchase any lipsticks, until I started making some kind of dent in my collection, all went out the window when I come across "Celestial" during a food shop at woolies for just over $3. I just didn't have the will power to resist that good of a deal!
I adore the packaging. The doe foot applicator makes for an easy application.
"Celestial" is a dusty pink.
This is certainly a staple shade. Great for a natural day look, or pair it with a smoky eye. It is so versatile! A gorgeous opaque lip product that feels lovely on the lips, and really lasts.
I love Rimmel Apocalips, and really want to purchase "Stellar"!
I am so easily persuaded to try something. Forget the fact that rose scents can often make me feel ill, many raves about Tresor Midnight Rose had me coveting this fragrance. Instead of committing to a full size, I headed to ebay and found a decent trial size.
Even for a sample size, the bottle is so pretty, replicating the full size. It is missing it's little rose that is placed around the neck of the bottle. I broke it :(
Description- "A new dose of Parisian romance provides a fragrant story beginning with passionate accords of raspberry and rich rose nuance. Love at first sight which happened between gentle rose petals and res fruit zest of raspberry continues with a hint of peony and jasmine, in an elegant and sophisticated way. Insolence felt in a heart comes from pink pepper and a dose of gentleness from currant buds. Base notes provide tranquility and comfort- composed of warm and soft vanilla, woody nuances of Virginian cedar and sensual musky veil."
Well there was no need to worry about the rose element of this perfume, it is so subtle. I mostly get tart, sweet berries on my skin.
After wear I get hints of that spicy pepper, but barely, as it is hidden in the creamy florals, which pair back so beautifully with the raspberry.
Tresor Midnight Rose reminds me of first love, but the old fashioned courting. There's something innocent, yet there's passion simmering beneath the surface. I can see why so many people adore this perfume.
For me, it's nice, but doesn't have enough to persuade me to buy a larger bottle, no matter how gorgeous it looks!
I'm pretty excited to post my first ever favourites feature. I have quite a few products to show you that I have been loving.
Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturiser- After finishing up the Spray Moisturiser in the Cocoa formula, I replaced it with the Advanced Strength version. I was totally content with the previous bottle, but wanted to try a different one. This one has been wonderful, as my skin tends to get drier in cold weather. I'm also loving that I don't have to wait long for the moisturiser to absorb before putting clothes on after a shower. It's way too cold to wait around! Lol.
88 Warm palette- Whenever I am wearing makeup, I am almost always using this palette. It is perfect for eye contouring, but I could easily get away with just using these eye shadows. I do everything from highlight my brows and corner of my eyes, to deeper crease and brow bone shades, to even filling in my eye brows. It is so versatile. Also, this version is so easy to find on eBay for a low price.
SunCeuticals SPF 45 Lotion- This lotion is from the RawSkinCeuticals brand. Light, moisturising and good for the skin. I do have a review on its way, but what I will say is this, it's the best sunscreen that I have ever used!!
Mirenesse BB Pore Powder- I really love this fine milled powder for setting foundation and concealer. It does such a great job without caking the skin. It also makes my foundation stay put for hours. My base products seriously look the same when I am about to remove at the end of the day, as what it did when I first applied it. No touch ups necessary. The one thing that really irks me though is the fragrance, I don't like it. I am willing to overlook that problem because it doesn't stick around for too long, and well, it does a fabulous job!
Skinn Sugar Lips Polishing Scrub- This lip scrub has become a must have product for me. Whenever I plan to wear lipstick, I will give my lips a good scrub with this product during my morning skincare routine. The sugar works on the rough texture of my dry lips, whilst the moisturising oil base hydrates. I don't want to be without this product!
YBF Brow Pencil- I love that I don't have to worry about choosing a shade with this brow pencil. It is universal. Colour is achieved depending on the pressure you use to apply. The pencil is retractable, yay! It does not tug, but is firm enough to control the strokes needed to fill in thee brows. There's also a handy spoolie at the other end, great for grooming brows.
MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder- "Pink Shimmer" is the highlighter that I've been wearing almost every day recently. It provides a beautiful iridescent pink sheen that's so easy to sweep on with a brush and is not glittery.
Earthen Glow Minerals Seaside- I only recently pulled out this gloss to wear over a lipstick that was a similar shade. The lipstick is from the same company, but I found it too sheer so have since parted ways. The gloss however is slightly more opaque and is a stunning golden nude shade. The brand no longer operates, unfortunately.
Silk Naturals Kick Start- This little eye shadow sample is such a great colour! Perfect for every day wear, yet it's so pretty and shimmery. I would describe it as a silvery taupe, so different to how I expected the shade to turn out. In the baggie, it looks like a darker colour. Anyway, I'm loving it, and you can see a swatch and me wearing it here.
Skinn Lip 6X Lip Amplifying Serum- Last, but definitely not least is this amazing lip serum. I've used so may lip balms in the past to try and relieve my dry, chapped lips. THIS is SO good! I use it morning and night. I can't believe how long this product lasts, usually around 2-3 hours, which is something I've not experienced from any other lip balm that I've used. Number 1 favourite item of the moment.
I like to check out the various products that Aldi have on offer. I have a few staples that I find are just as good as more expensive brands. A good, cheap product, and I'm on it! It was actually my daughter who insisted on trying Aldi's own Benifex Paw Paw Ointment.
Taken from the package- "Temporary relief of the symptoms of dermatitis and eczema . Help against the drying effects of the wind and sun. May be used as a topical application for cuts, minor burns, minor open wounds, splinters and thorns, nappy rash and sunburn. Helps maintain the skin's natural moisture."
Product is in a tube with screw top lid.
It is a thick balm like consistency.
I have not tried using the ointment for a lot of listed recommended uses, but what I do use it for is as a lip balm. The ointment sits on my bedside table so I can apply to my lips before bed. I prefer using at night, because I find that because I apply with my fingers, it can be a little messy. I tend to use a twist tube lip balm during the day, with one in my handbag.
It is so soothing and keeps my lips hydrated, without them feeling tight once it has disappeared
Thankfully, Benifex Paw Paw Ointment is a regular product at Aldi, so I don't have to be concerned that it won't be unavailable.
This nail polish only became part of my collection because it was on sale for $1. I certainly could have lived without another dark purple shade, but hey, at that low of a price, I couldn't just walk away, right?
I really like the blackened purple shade of "Hypnotize Me" (love that the name is easy to see!)
This is 2 coats of nail polish, plus top coat. The result looks like a gel. It doesn't last ultra long, but no regular polish ever does on my nails.
This shade is a perfect winter colour, rather classy, I think :)
In May I finished quite a few products, and discovered some new favourite products.
Wotnot Wipes- I bought a pack of 3 of these makeup wipes when on sale. Repurchase? I'm not sure, the wipes did a decent job of removing my makeup after my nightly oil cleanse. I am content using any brand that is cheap and does the job. FCUK Connect Perfume- This was a nice perfume to use, fruity and sweet. Repurchase? The longevity just wasn't good enough to warrant another purchase of this perfume. Skinn Vacuum Deep Pore Cleansing Mask- Ever since having a skin care routine, a clay mask has always been my weekly treatment. I've been using so many Skinn Cosmetics products of late and just had to try one of the brand's iconic products. Repurchase? I would consider after finishing up my current clay masks. I was using this mask 3 times a week, but because I was going through too much product, I cut back to once weekly. I found it was enough to maintain the deep cleansing of my skin that this mask provides. Lacura Lip Balm- This lip balm from Aldi's own brand contains sunscreen, which is something I had not considered before when buying a lip balm. It was a little thicker on the lips than most lip balms, but wasn't sticky. It did a decent job of hydrating my lips. Repurchase? I still have 2 others, as I bought this balm in a pack of 3, so no need to buy again in a hurry. Hair Ritual Conditioner for Fine/Limp Hair- This is a great conditioner for my lifeless hair. My hair has regular highlight touch-ups. With all the damaging chemicals, my hair is in pretty good condition. The conditioner contains anti-ageing peptides, which are really working to maintain shine and softness. Repurchase? I already have back-ups :)
Revlon Whipped Colorstay Foundation- This is a cream foundation that is light and easy to use. It has medium to heavy coverage. It gives a velvety finish and has great lasting power. Repurchase? It is good enough for me to buy again, but I have quite a few foundation that are on my wish list, so I won't be buying again in the near future, but who knows, it may grace my makeup collection again some day. Elf Eyelid Primer in "Sheer"- Some time ago I reviewed this primer in "Pearl" . This one I liked better. "Sheer" is a little lighter than my skintone, but is a neutral colour, so evens my eye area, but also brightens it. Repurchase? This is a hard one, because I really liked it, but I imagine a concealer could do the same thing. Models Prefer "Adore" Perfume- Well, for a cheap perfume, "Adore" was really a lovely fragrance. I didn't commit to a full size, just in case, but I had no need to be concerned. Repurchase? I'm not sure if Priceline still stock these perfumes, but as said before, it's going to be some time before I even consider another perfume purchase. Natio BB Cream- A BB Cream has become a staple in my makeup collection. Natio is such a much loved brand that I couldn't wait to try their version. I found it worked well to make my skin look more even, adding warmth to my skin, which was very flattering in Summer. I used the one in Tan. It felt a little tacky, but not greasy. Repurchase? There's just so many I want to try, but so far my fave is Garnier BB Cream for Oily/Combination skin.
Garnier Miracle Skin Cream- I nice moisturiser. Nothing fancy, but did leave my skin feeling soft. I did really like to use this product under makeup. Repurchase? It would be great as a primer, so maybe when I am in need of one, I may just repurchase this cream. "Mary Shelley" Eye Shadow- This is a pretty eye shadow, a dusty pink, with a subtle shimmer. The problem is, I cannot find the brand on the label of the baggie. Repurchase? As much as I really liked this eye shadow, I have way too many that I have at least one dupe of this shade, so no. Oh, and not knowing the brand makes it almost impossible, lol. Lancome "Tresor Midnight Rose"- The mini perfume I bought is just adorable. The perfume was lovely, great for any occasion. Repurchase? As nice as this perfume was, it just wasn't love for me. No buying a full size, but I can appreciate why so many people adore it. Mon Ennui "Djinn"- The duo chrome eye shadows from Mon Ennui are unique to say the least. They are rather shimmery, but easy to apply. It is a dove grey shade with a lavender shift. I didn't actually publish a look, but the link to the website is here. Repurchase? It is so pretty, but I really need to use more of my mineral eye shadows before even considering a full size purchase. RawSkinCeuticals RegenC Samples- I've been including some samples from RawSkinCeuticals in my current skin care routine. The ones I have are from the RegenC range. The products I finished are the creme, serum and cleanser. I won't comment too much, as I have full sizes, and will review when I've had the opportunity to use the products for longer. Let's just say "so far, so good".
These product are unfinished, but most are way past their use-by-date. The nail polish was too streaky, so I decided it could go, too.
Are you happy with the amount of products you finished up in the month of May?
